this is one way for nursing programs to get to know you
Not all nursing programs require letters of recommendation, but many of them do. This is a letter that you have someone write about you that expresses why you should be accepted into the program. You will need letters of recommendation for so many opportunities like scholarships, volunteering, work, and other programs.
Anyone can write a letter of recommendation for you. For nursing programs it is recommended you have a professor (preferably from your prerequisites), advisor, or supervisor from a healthcare related experience write one for you.
what you need to know for your application
1. Request your letter of rec about a month to month and a half before your deadline. Also follow up every two weeks to ensure it is submitted on time.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
2. On your application, the person writing the letter usually has to submit it themselves to the application. You usually will not submit it for them, so it is important to continuously follow up. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
3. Treat everyone you meet during your pre-nursing journey as a potential letter of rec. Impress your professors, get to know them, and attend office hours. Even if you don’t have the best grades, show dedication. Just always make connections and network. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
4. Try not to have a family member or someone you know personally write your letter. It is more impressive to the program if it is from a math/science/English professor or healthcare experience. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
5. Really try to have the maximum amount of letters of rec. If the program’s minimum requirements is 1 letter, but they allow up to 3, then submit 3 letters of rec. The program will be able to get to know you more. Bottom line: never do the minimum for anything.⠀
